Understanding the HUD

I re-watched the E3 & IGN videos to decode the text in the HUD.
For many of you this information may have been obvious; for me it was not.
I documented every time the words in the HUD changed.

The HUD Left text is the celestial body or solar system depending on context.
The HUD Right text identifies if you are on foo or in your space ship; LAZEUS = on foot, REZOSU = in space ship.

Huh.  And you had such beautiful scientific evidence!  Of course, as others pointed out, it does seem like that would be unnecessary.  Perhaps the next IGN video will offer more conclusive data points.

Yeah it really feels unnecessary to just tell you if you're on foot or in a ship. There really must be something more to it. Though I don't think we'll find out. It's probably something we'll have to find out for ourselves when the game is released. We should definetly start a thread where people can post a screen of when's showing in their HUD to see if it changes.

I want to be able to name my ship!

If there is a possibility of naming planets, which you don't technically own, then I'm pretty confident that you'll be able to name your own ship.  Hopefully.  As you become more attached to your ship, with its gradual buildup of dents, scratches, and rust patches, it would only be fair to have a meaningful name.

This community is incredible!  Solving these minor mysteries through scientific collaboration represents a mindset unique to fans of this game. At least that's what I like to think

I think it was during the Gameinformer coverage that it was confirmed that you can name your own ship. So that if someone actually got their hands on it after you sold it on they would see the name you gave it. It's just like naming all the other things in the game. But yeah to me naming the ship means a lot more than naming a fish or two

Yeah I love this community too. That's why it's the first time I'm really active on a forum. I hope it stays this good natured for a long time

Right, I totally forgot that GameInformer mentioned naming.  And I can't imagine that this forum could become less good-natured.

There's so much info it's nearly impossible to remember it all Yeah as long as the trolls stay on Facebook I'm sure we'll be fine
