I had awoken on a planet, with no memories of my past life. When I first awoke on this strange planet, I had panicked and started frantically running like an idiot. After calming down, I searched the strange planet I was on, the whole time, I desired to get my memories back. I kept thinking there must be a way, there has to be. I found a spaceship that looked to be working. Even as I had no conscious memories, I know how to get in and fly the ship by muscle memory so I must have flown this ship many times before. As I was flying, I felt the ship getting more and more familiar. I explored looking for something to help me, but... I couldn't find anything and I had finally accepted that I will not know who I was before, but I had also realized that I don't need my old memories and I don't need to know who I was before. All that matters is what I do now and create new memories. The question is, what will I do, how will I create my new memories and who will I be now?
will update soon and the parts of this story will get longer as it goes.

I have been exploring for a couple weeks now. I have discovered beacons on planets and I have been able to upload anything I discovered from scanning my area. I have discovered 10 planets so far. I don't stay for too long on these planets as I just take what I need, discover a couple species and then leave and go somewhere else. I have also bought supplies and a new hyperdrive for my ship, but something about that space station seemed very familiar. As I went through the station, it kept getting more and more familiar. I have been noticing an overwhelming sense of familiarity at certain places on planets I've explored, but I could never find anything there from my old life. I must have been an explorer in my previous life, like I have become now.
In the next part I will discuss the center of the galaxy and other parts of the past life

Ever since I woke up without my memories, I had a desire to explore, but now I feel like I have a specific place to go, like there is somewhere I must go. If I figure out what it is, maybe I can find out who I was. As I have been exploring, I have not seen many people. I have encountered space station and fleets, but I haven't seen people that look like me. I am starting to question if there is anybody else like me. I must find this place that I am drawn to, as it could have answers to my species and who I am. I start to try and dig deep into my memories, looking for some clue to what this might be. I tried for a while, but I could not find anything. I then remembered that I helped a fleet being attacked by pirates
I was exploring a planet for a little while and decided to leave, but as I was about to engage my hyperdrive, I saw a fleet warp in. A couple moments later, pirates warped in and started attacking the fleet. I had to make a decision, run away and go about my business, help the pirates or help the fleet. With no hesitation, I started shooting down the pirates attacking the fleet. After a few minutes of fighting, the fleet was safe and the pirates were dead. The fleet contacted me and thanked me and said that I was welcome aboard if I wanted to. I decided not to and left exploring on my own. Before I left, they told me that if I changed my mind that I could find them in the Birkan-to system. I marked it for later exploration on my galaxy map.
I frantically started scanning my map to find this system that I marked. I found it and immediately warped hoping to find something to help me.
Next part, we will meet some new characters on the fleet and find some information out.

After getting to the Birkan-to system, I scanned the area with my ship's scanner trying to find the fleet that I had helped. After a few minutes of scanning, I finally found them. I contacted them and told them who I was and hoped that they would remember me. The person that I contacted wasn't the captain like the first time we contacted. I kept trying to tell him to direct me to the captain of the ship, but he wouldn't listen. After about 10 minutes of arguing, I heard the familiar voice of the captain asking what was going on. He told her that I was saying that I helped them out with pirates a while ago. After hearing that, she told him to directly connect me to her comm channel. She greeted me and thanked me again for helping them out with the pirates. I told her that I wanted to come aboard and talk with her. She granted me clearance and told me she would meet me on the deck. I landed on the deck, and saw people trading and running around. I even saw a few kids playing. It gave me a sense of peace I haven't had since I woke up months ago on that distant planet. I was knocked out of my trance by the voice of the female captain welcoming me aboard. She told me what they had aboard and where to go for everything such as trading. After a few minutes of us talking, I started asking her if there was something huge or very important anywhere. She said she hadn't discovered anything like that, but heard people talking about something very important at the center of the galaxy. At first I thought it was crazy, as did she, but it was the only lead I had. Before I left, I traded a little bit and asked people if they heard anything about the center of the galaxy. Most of them said no and didn't know anything about it or didn't want to talk about it, but a few said that a huge machine called the alas is there that contains all discovered knowledge of the galaxy and that the beacons that are used to upload discoveries upload them into the atlas. It sounded insane, but if it were true I could discover what species I am and who I might have been. I said my farewells and left. I looked on my galaxy map and tried to find the center of the galaxy. While I saw where it as, when I tried to go closer on the galaxy map, it almost seemed like it never got closer. I decided to travel to the system closest to the center as I could and see what else I could find. This might be how I find my old memories and how I might finally have closure.
Next part, we will be getting closer to the center of the galaxy and also the end of this story.

Author's note. I know I don't normally do an A/N but I just wanted to say that I will either be ending this soon or keep it going until NMS comes out but I am not sure. Anyways, back to the story
Part 4 Once I warped in, I decided to check around this system. I saw a planet that looked interesting, so I scanned and saw a bunch of points being marked to check out on the planet. I went to the closest to me and landed my ship. After looking around, I found what looked like a city that has deteriorated over time. It seemed to be a great city, as it was huge and had many buildings. I decided to check it out, and entered through what seemed to be the front entrance into the center of the city. I went into the first building on my left and checked it out. I wasn't able to find anything so I went back and searched more of the buildings in these ruins of this city. In most of the buildings, I found small amounts of resources, but in one I found a few interesting things. I went into what looked like a watch tower, and I had the option to go up or down. I went up first and didn't find much. When I went down, it looked like some type of prison or dungeon. There were cells on both sides as I walked down the halls. In one of the cells, I found a drawing. It looked like a huge silver diamond with some type of red spot inside of it. Under the drawing, it said "keeper of knowledge". It had reminded me of what the people had said on the ship I helped out with the pirates. I started to now believe that this "Atlas", as the people on the ship called it, might be real. If this thing is the keeper of all known and discovered knowledge, it could help me find closure in who I was. On the ground, I also found what looked to be a blueprint of some kind for my ship. I took it to my ship and scanned to find out what it could be used for. It turned out to be an upgraded hyperdrive for my ship. All I needed to do was find certain materials and go to a space station to apply it. I started scanning to find these resources and found some of them, but one I wasn't able to find. It seemed to be called algartian and was an extremely rare element. I started to explore caves to try and find it. I couldn't find it with the first few caves, but I searched another cave and scanned the area. My suit beeped and marked this rare element. I started heading for it right away, but after going into the cave a bit more, I started to hear growling. I scanned again and discovered a vicious animal. I needed to get this element, but I didn't want to kill this animal, as it may be one of the only ones. I decided to try and scare it away by shooting a warning shot, but it didn't seem to work. I kept going over the options in my head and made a decision.
Sorry for the cliche cliffhanger, but in the next part we will discover what the explorer decided to do.
Post by GalaxyExplorer74 on Jan 10, 2016 4:13:39 GMT
I finally made a decision on what to do. I shot my multitool and killed the beast. I would never forgive myself for this and I will never make an excuse for it. I walked deeper into the cave, trying to keep myself from breaking down. I saw the element and mined it, then walked back to my ship. I was almost in a trance the entire time until I got to my ship. It had finally sunken in what I did. I felt so much guilt, but I knew that I could not change the past. I went over my list again and double checked that I had everything I needed. After a couple minutes, I left the planet, heading for the space station near it. I landed inside the space station and went towards the workbench to craft the upgrade I needed. As I was scanning the materials and instructing the workbench what to make, I was thinking that this had better be worth it. The workbench was going to need a little while to craft the upgrade, so I decided to check around the station. Once again, I finally had some moments of peace, except this time, it lasted much longer than it did on the fleet. After a little while of walking around, I decided to sit down and just think about everything that has happened so far. First I awake on a distant planet with no memories. Then I explore and discover dozens of planets and hundred of different species across the galaxy. Then I help people in distress being attacked by pirates. Then I discover something that could help me finally find closure in my life. And finally, now I am here, an explorer on a space station that is crafting an advanced hyperdrive to find my past. I was in such a trance that I didn't even notice a woman sit next to me. She said hello and introduced herself. This startled me a little bit, but then I introduced myself. She asked me what I was thinking about. I told her I was thinking about my life. She asked me about my life, but I didn't tell her much, just bits and pieces. She told me that she was the mother of the 2 boys playing soccer and the little girl playing with her imaginary friend. I asked her where her husband is. I noticed she got uncomfortable and said that she doesn't have a husband. I wasn't sure whether to push or not, so I decided to not ask anything more about the father. We talked a little bit more, when my suit beeped telling me that the hyperdrive was ready. I told her I had to go and said goodbye. I started to think that if and when I find my past, I could maybe settle down and have a family myself. I dismissed the thought and went to the workbench to install my hyperdrive. I went onto my galaxy map and saw that I could warp much further distances than I could before. I continued my journey for the past.
Next part, we will jump ahead a little bit and discuss some of what the explorer has done and maybe find more evidence of the atlas.

A/N I know it took me a very long time to update this story again, but I have been so busy with school that I just have had no time and I tried to write this part before but as I got finished with it, it all got deleted, before I could post it. But anyway back to the story.
Part 6 And that is my story so far. I am still traveling towards the center of the galaxy, taking my journey a few systems at a time. "How much longer until we get there?" I hear from my new partner, hirkan-bo. I met Hirkan on a space station that I went to to resupply for my journey.
I am in a space station currently having my ship being supplied. The resupply usually takes a while so I am going to take a walk throughout the space station for a while. As I walk through, I notice the people seem a little uncomfortable. I think something may have happened here on the station. But I also notice that the people seem to become uncomfortable when they see me, but before they see me, they are smiling and are happy. I wonder why the people are like this. Maybe I- "Whoa, is that a 9600X fang ship?" The sudden question jolts me out of my thoughts to see a teenager by my ship asking me about it. "Yes, it is. You have a pretty good eye for this huh?" "Well yeah, I guess. I have just always been interested in these ships and the exploration they are capable of." "What's your name?" "Hirkan-bo, what's yours?" "My name is Garkin. Nice to meet you Hirkan." "Nice to meet you too." "So, where are your parents?" He became noticeably uncomfortable when I asked that question. "I don't have parents." "Well do you have anybody to take care of you?" "No I take care of myself, I have a job here and I sleep on a sleeping bag." "Well how would you feel about coming with me and let me help you, I will pay for everything you need, including your own ship to explore with me." His eyes practically lit like up a light bulb when I said this. "Are you serious?" "Yes, I am serious."
He became so happy when I offered him to come with me and almost jumped up and down so much, I'm surprised he didn't do damage to his brain. We've become a pretty good team and has taught me to loosen up a lot and he's even taught me a few jokes. "Garkin, did you hear me?" "I heard you the same as the 7 other times you've said it in the past 10 minutes and the answer is still the same, I don't know." While he is a good partner to have and it's nice to not be alone in my journey anymore, sometimes I consider somehow going back in time and stopping myself from offering my help to Hirkan, but his happy-go-lucky and fun-loving personality shoots that thought out of my mind. Having Hirkan around has made my journey less lonely and now, I barely stress about the center and what might be there, because when I did, Hirkan would say something to me. "Hey, there is no point in stressing and worrying about things you cannot control. Can people control their age or diseases they may have? This is just another one of those uncontrollable things in life that you just have to deal with, so don't worry, it'll all be fine."
Yes, all of the story so far has been in the past and now we have a partner and we know the explorer's name. We will go through an adventure with Garkin and his teenage partner Hirkan.

A/N I know it took way longer than usual to update, but I kind of hit a writer's block and decided to take a break, but now we are back.
"Oh this is so cool" I hear my partner gushing over this new planet we've discovered. The planet had an even balance of almost everything. It had red and green trees with oceans and grasslands with mountains that almost seemed to reach the sky and touch it with it's peak. The air felt so clean, you wanted to take off your mask and breathe it in for yourself, but that would kill you, so we didn't do that. "Yeah, it is beautiful I must say, but it is not the most beautiful." He seemed surprised and almost offended. "Really, then how about you show me this planet that YOU think is the most beautiful?" "We can't, we've gotta keep going towards the center." "Oh come on Garkin, don't you ever take a rest from exploring and just relax on a planet every once in a while?" I wanted to keep arguing, but I realized that I actually have never taken a "vacation" on my journey. "You haven't taken a rest, have you?" "No, I've always just focused on travelling and getting to my destination." "Come on, we've travelled a lot, let's take a break on the most beautiful planet you've discovered and just rest for a little while. You deserve it after all you've been through." I thought about and realized he was right. "Ok, let's go." I opened my galaxy map and set my warp drive to take me to a planet I distinctly remember to be beautiful. It had the perfect amount of everything. There were oceans that ran so deep, nobody knew everything that was under the water, but it was always such a beautiful blue. The sky would turn different colors, pink, purple, orange, blue, and there were clouds that reflected these colors so perfectly. There was a whole multitude of different trees, that were all beautiful colors. And best of all, there were no lethal elements in the atnosphere, so you could actually take your helmet off and breathe in real air that wasn't filtered. "Wow, you weren't kidding about this beautiful planet, huh?" "No, I wasn't. I told you it was the most beautiful." "Yeah yeah, I was wrong, you were right, shut up about it." We both chuckled and went down to the planet to find a good spot to rest. After looking for a few minutes, I saw a hill overlooking an ocean and beyond it, in the horizon, you could see the peaks of mountains touching the sky. And to top it off, there were beautiful green trees right behind to provide a bit of shade. "Hirkan, over there." I pointed at the spot I saw, and he looked and nodded. We landed on the hill and jumped out of our ships and just looked at everything. He went back to his ship and started grabbing something. "What are you getting?" He comes back out with a few fanz juices and I look at him disapprovingly. "What, they aren't that bad. Take one." I just shake my head and smile and grab the bottle. We sit on our ships just looking at it, appreciating the peaceful silence. We barely said anything, just drank and took a long-needed rest. Once again, I actually have a moment of peace, but instead, it wasn't interrupted this time and I could truly enjoy this feeling of peace wash over me.
I know this didn't have much seriousness or story to it, but I felt like they just needed a time of peace. Not sure what I'll do next time, but I'll think of something. See you next update.
Post by GalaxyExplorer74 on Apr 24, 2016 17:59:53 GMT
A/N super sorry about not updating all this time, but I wasn't able to update because my stuff wasn't working and I've been really busy with school, especially now that I've been invited to a math contest on May 9th so I'm pretty stressed about that, but let's continue this story.
After relaxing on the beautiful planet for a while, we decided we needed to get going, or rather I decided we needed to leave. "Oh come on, just a little longer. I want to see the rest of this planet." "No, we've been here long enough. We need to go now." "Fine, party pooper." I just ignore him and we leave together. The planet was quite a ways back from where we were, but we made up the distance pretty quickly, but not without hirkan wanting to know more about me. "So, where did you come from?" "Why do you want to know all of a sudden." "Because we've been travelling together for a while now and I still don't know too much about you." "I'm sorry, but I'm just not very comfortable talking ab-" "NO, YOU HAVE BEEN KEEPING THIS TO YOURSELF FOR TOO LONG, I CAN TELL!" This startled me and even scared me a little. I had never heard him so serious or angry before. "It is destroying you on the inside. Please tell me, you can trust me." I debate on whether or not to tell him and even though I don't really want to, I know he is right. "Ok fine, I will tell you my story." I tell him about everything I've been through, how I don't remember my past, what I've done, everything that has happened throughout my journey. He seemed suprised and even sad at times. By the time the story was over, he looked like he was almost holding back tears. "I am so sorry, I never knew." "Well you do now, and don't be sorry. It felt good to finally tell somebody my story, so thank you. Now how about you tell me your story. I don't know much about you either." "Well I guess its only fair." He chuckled, but I could tell he was nervous. "Ok, this is my story."
Yup, gonna have to wait till next time to learn hirkan's story. See you next chapter.
Post by GalaxyExplorer74 on Jun 24, 2016 10:04:11 GMT
A/N hey, sorry about all this time, I just kinda forgot about this story and didn't have much inspiration or determination to keep on writing, but I will keep on writing, but I think I may end it soon, still I am not sure. So in this part, we shall learn of hirkan's past.
After gathering some courage, I began to tell my story to Garkin, who is now sort of like my father figure.
"Well, where to start. Well I was born as a healthy baby Boy and-"
"Come on Hirkan, don't be nervous. Trust me." He chuckled a bit, but I could tell he was serious.
"Ok, well I grew up going around the galaxy with my parents and my two younger brothers and my little sister."
After he heard me say that, he seemed to think back on a distant memory. He quickly came back to reality and continued to listen.
"We moved around a lot, going from planet to planet, space station to space station. On the space station you met me on, I noticed my parents were getting into more and more arguments. I was the only one who know why we kept moving. My selfish, idiot of a father would spend every unit we ever got on gambling and drugs."
Harkin was intensely listening, almost trying to find details. I ignored it for now and kept going on.
"My mom always tried to make it work, but it just got too much for her, and when I was 13, she decided to leave. I didn't have a good relationship with either of them, but I was sick of moving, so I stayed, while my mom took my siblings and left."
Garkin once again was listening very intensely, yet, for certain details, he would almoost get a look in his eyes, and when I mentioned my mother and siblings leaving without me, he almost had a look of realisation on his face, but did not interrupt.
"My little sister was sound asleep and didn't even know what was happening. But I can't say the same for my brothers. They were extremely sad and wanted me to come with, and I almost did, but I couldn't. On the morning of my 16th birthday I woke up and found my dad in his beat up sofa, rather than his bed. I figured he just passed out, but I decided not to wake him up. I went to work, and all my friends threw me a suprise party. Even my boss was in on it. We had a great time, but of course after a little while, my boss said we had to get back to work. After finishing work, I found my dad, in the exact same spot as he was before. I got worried and tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't. I got the doctors and they told me he was dead and had been since last night and died from a drug overdose."
I started to tear up, but he just put a hand on my shoulder, "you don't have to go on, it's ok if you don-"
I cut him off before he finished, saying "no, I have to get this out, besides I'm almost done." He just nodded and waited for me to continue.
After calming myself down I continued. "I was broken after that. Sure he was a deadbeat dad, but he was still my father and I knew he loved me. I didn't have enough money to pay for the house, so I was kicked out and I had to sleep on the floor."
I saw a few tears come out of his eyes and all of a sudden, he hugged me. I appreciated the sweet gesture, but it was still weird seeing an older guy crying and hugging me, so I decided to break the tension and sadness between us for a second.
"Alright, alright get off me. I don't need you turning into a girl on me." I joked.
We both laughed quite a bit at that, and he stopped hugging me, but he again got serious. "I am very sorry. I can't imagine seeing one of my parents dead when I had just seen 'em the night before."
"Hey you got it worse than me. You don't even remember your parents or your family if you had one. I would rather not have my family and know what happened to them rather than not even know them or remember their faces. I am very sorry as well."
Now that we know each other even more, I believe we will work better as a team from now on, and who knows when we might need it.
And that is Hirkan's story. I decided to put it in his POV as we would see more how he saw it and see how our explorer would react. I'm sure it is obvious about what Garkin was thinking about, but still guess away. Now question is, will he tell hirkan and if he does, how will hirkan react? We will see next time.
Post by GalaxyExplorer74 on Sept 4, 2016 7:33:42 GMT
A/N what's up, sorry it took so long, but I kinda lost inspiration for this story so I may end it soon, sorry. Also, gotta say, now that NMS is finally out, I'm suprised to see that a lot of elements from my story were at least partly correct or totally correct, I was glad to see that.
After hearing Hirkan's story, I realized that the woman that I met on that space station so long ago was the mother of Hirkan. I couldn't believe this, it was almost as if fate pulled us together. I've been pondering on whether or not I should tell Hirkan for a few sols now. On one hand, he could finally know that his family was ok, safe and happy. But on another, it could bring him great sadness and distraught and cause him to do something reckless
"Garkin, hello? Can you hear me?!"
That snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked at him embarrassed. Currently we were in a space station doing some trading with some of the local korvax that regularly land. "Sorry, I was thinking."
"About what?" He said with curiosity in his voice.
"Nothing important." I hoped he wouldn't press any further... but I'm just not that lucky am I.
"Oh come on, tell me." He responded with almost a whine in his voice.
"No, trust me, I don't need to concern you with it." I lied. How could it not concern him, it was about his long lost family!
"... fine, whatever." He sighed in defeat, while I sighed with relief.
After a few more minutes, we decided to leave for our journey. We were so close now, looking at my galaxy map, it said I was a mere 2,576 light years away. With my improved warp drive, I could easily make it in a few jumps. I couldn't believe it, I was so close.
I looked at Hirkan and he had the same expression. The face of relief, accomplishment and unbelievibility. He knew we were nearly there, we went to the farthest system we could, it being 1,158 light years away, nearly cutting the distance in half.
When we warped in, there were 3 planets in front of us, forming an upside down triangle with a moon in the middle and the star shining in the background, causing an outline of light for each planet. It was very beautiful.
"Wow." I heard him say in astonishment, yet still softly.
"Agreed." I repeated in the same tone.
Unfortunately, this wouldn't last. A few moments afterwards we saw space freighters warping in. It seemed normal at first, but after a closer look, we saw one on fire. A few seconds after, we saw pirates warping in and attacking the freighters.
Me and Hirkan looked at each other in silent agreement. We used our pulse drive to get there as quickly as possible. We disabled it after only a second and immediately entered the battle. Because of our element of suprise, we each took out one of the six, bringing them down to four. Unfortunately, we no longer have the element of suprise and they focused their fire, two on each of us. We had done this plenty of times before, so we knew how to handle this. We flew around narrowly dodging some of their bullets, the rest deflected by the shields. We then started to instersect out paths, seeing if we could get them to shoot each other, as we have done to others before, but these pirates wouldn't fall for that. Luckily that's not the only thing we have up our sleeves. We again intersected our paths, but instead only one of us, the one being me, flew into the other's path perpendicular-like, shooting at the pirates in the other's tail. Fortunately, it worked and I took out both of the pirates. Now it was time to get rid the ones on my tail. Hirkan ,seeing that he was safe, started to follow behind me and shot at the pirates. After about 20 seconds, he shot down one of them and focused on the other. Only thing is that this one is smarter than the other pirates. He was not relying on his deflector shield as much as the others did and tried to not get hit, which was working well. Hirkan was alright at shooting, but his aim was not the greatest, let alone without a great pilot avoiding the majority of his shots. I saw Hirkan starting to get reckless and I became worried.
"Hirkan, let up!" I told him, but there as no response.
"Hirkan!!!" No response
"Damn it!" If Hirkan didn't let up, he may shoot me by accident.
I then noticed the pirate was following me and getting a little closer and directed himself right behind me. I then realized what he was doing.
"I've got him in my sights, he's going down!" Hirkan spoke with determination and confidence.
"No, don-" but it was too late, he already began firing. I prepared myself for what I knew would happen.
This last pirate is seriously pissing me off. Why won't he act like the others and just stay still!
"Come on!!" I yelled. I heard Garkin telling me to stop, but I didn't listen. I know I can do this.
I followed closely behind, trying to get the shots off that I could. I then saw that he began to still himself, almost waiting, but I didn't notice this. All I noticed was that this was my chance to shoot him into oblivion.
"I've got him in my sights, he's going down!" I told Garkin. I heard him try to say something, but it was too late, I already fired. When I fired, I realized what a huge mistake it was. The pirate did a barrel roll out of the way when I fired and I saw exactly where the shots were going... straight towards Garkin.
"Nooooooo!" I screamed, but there was nothing I could do.
I watched in horror as I saw my friend's ship get shot and tore up. I saw a fire start and Garkin start to lose control.
I quickly activated my communications terminal "Garkin, are you ok?!?!?!"
I heard beeping in the background "No, I'm not. I'm not going to make it."
"No, don't say that, you'll be fine. Did you tr-"
"There is nothing I can do, the damage is too severe" he cut me off. I felt tears roll down my cheeks and flood my eyes.
"I'm so sorry."
"I'm sorry too, for everything. I will always be proud of you."
That brought even more tears to my eyes. Then, I heard what I dreaded.
I winced and a whole new flood of tears came as I saw what I did. I just sat there, crying until I couldn't cry any more, yet I still choked and whimpered. I didn't care anymore, I didn't care about anything. I didn't care about where my ship was headed, I didn't care about that last pirate, I didn't care about the freighters. All I could do was cry.
"I'm so sorry." I whimpered.
Alrighty then, well that was sad. Now I know how it feel to kill off a character you created and put so much work into. My heart hurts so much. I thought about doing some cliffhangers, but I hate that and instead put it in as one, cause it flows better. So yeah, our explorer is now dead, accidently killed by his closest friend. What will Hirkan do now? Heck, I don't even know yet. Also, can you guess where the setting for the planets and the moon came from? Anyways, I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now, I'm sorry too.
